Class Description
Curious about pottery but not sure where to start? This class is the perfect first step into the world of clay—no experience required! In this Pottery 101 Course, you’ll explore multiple ways to create pottery while learning the essential skills every ceramic artist needs. Over six weeks, you’ll get hands-on experience with handbuilding techniques and the pottery wheel, allowing you to discover what you love most about working with clay. We’ll start with the basics—learning how clay works and building confidence from day one—then gradually expand into slab building, coil construction, wheel throwing, surface decoration, and glazing. This class is designed to be welcoming, low-pressure, and fun, with plenty of guidance and encouragement along the way. By the end of the course, you’ll have several finished pieces and a solid foundation in pottery techniques, plus a better understanding of where you’d like to continue your clay journey next. What You’ll Learn: -Clay basics, wedging, and pinch pots -Handbuilding with slabs and coils -Introductory wheel throwing -Trimming and refining pottery -Surface design and decoration techniques -Glazing and finishing your work What’s Included: -A 25 lb bag of clay, tools, glazes, and firing -Small class size for personalized instruction -A variety of finished, functional pottery pieces Good to Know: -This class is designed for true beginners -Finished pieces will be ready for pick-up approximately 2 weeks after the final class -Pottery cannot be taken home the same day it is made Whether you’re looking for a new creative outlet, a hands-on experience, or the start of a long-term pottery practice, the Pottery 101 Course is a joyful, supportive place to begin.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations & Refunds Full refunds are available for cancellations made at least 7 days before the first class. If you cancel within 7 days, we can’t offer a refund—but you’re welcome to transfer your spot to a friend if they’re wheel-curious and want to join in your place. Please email us to make the switch! Missed Classes We aren’t able to offer make-up sessions for missed classes, but we’ll do our best to get you caught up during future sessions if time allows. Some weeks may include open studio hours—these can be used to practice or finish missed work. No-Shows Students who miss the first class without notice will be considered a no-show, and their spot may be released without a refund. Finished Work Pickup We’ll notify you when your glazed pieces are ready—typically about 2 weeks after the last class. We’ll hold finished work for 30 days after that. What to Bring Wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting muddy! Bring a water bottle, a notebook (optional but helpful!), and your creative curiosity. All materials, tools, and firing costs are included.
